Men's Gala Day - 7th September 2025

Men's Gala Day - 8th September 2025

Superb playing conditions greeted 64 bowlers from across our region competing in our Men’s Gala Day which was held on 8th September 2025.

The format for the competition consisted of a game of 2 bowl fours followed by 2 games of 3 bowls pairs, and finishing the day with a game of 2 bowl fours all played over 12 ends.

The lead chopped and changed over the course of the first three rounds with very tight and competitive bowling, however, a couple of teams started to put their stamp on the game.

At this point all players had their lunch break and were relaxed and refreshed for the final charge on the leader board. Once again great bowling  took place in the final round.

All eyes were on the leader board and when tallied up, it showed the team from Sporties Tuncurry of Marty Brown (S), Colin Campbell, John Mangion, and Graham Brown worthy winners on the day with 3.5 wins and a +margin of 22 shots.

A big thank you to all the players from our region who took part in the competition and played the games in an atmosphere of fun, camaraderie and competitiveness. A fantastic day was had by all.

Our club held the much-anticipated final of the club pairs on Sunday 24th of March 2024. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with a light cooling breeze, fantastic for a good game of lawn bowls. The pairings of Corey Fitzgerald & Mick Ansell were taking on the well-versed pairing Laurie Keene & John Higman. Both teams were up for the challenge and on paper it was looking like it would be a very tight, close game and it did not disappoint. The game was played hard with some incredibly accurate bowling on display from both teams. Corey and Mick came out an attacked the 1st end and by the 8th end were up 10 shots to 2. However, the older heads of Laurie and John were able to rein in that lead and by the 11th end were only one shot behind. The next 10 ends produced some precise bowling especially from Corey and Mick as they were able to hold onto there slender lead. Unfortunately, whilst still plugging away, Laurie and John could not keep up with the young guns of Corey and Mick who eventually ran out winner 25 to 17. At the conclusion of the game, the large crowd that had amassed to watch the final gave the guys a standing ovation for such an enthralling game of bowls. A big congratulation to Corey Fitzgerald and Mick Ansell on being crowned the 2024 Pairs Champions at Pacific Palms Bowling Club. Commiseration to Laurie Keene and John Higman who pushed Corey and Mick all the way to the end.

A beautiful sunny morning with a gentle breeze blowing across the green greeted 64 bowlers as they commenced the first game of 5 games of 15 ends 2bowl fours on Saturday 14th October. After 2 rounds in the morning, the players had a break for lunch, meanwhile the leader-board was updated. At this stage of the competition there were only a sprinkling of games with a margin greater than 10 shots. An extra end was required in a few games to determine the winning team, close games were the order of the day. The final round for Saturday was played in what can only be described as a sunny afternoon with occasional blustery winds. Testing conditions for bowling! Sunday morning commenced with a delicious BBQ fundraiser breakfast with all proceeds raised donated to the Bungwahl primary school. Once again close results, great bowling and all very competitive games and more draws happening across the green. At the conclusion of the bowls and lunch the leader-board was updated which now showed the winners and runners up as follows: 1st place with 5 wins & 37 margin S. Reed, G. Rashleigh, S. Locke /sub G Chapman, R. Turnbull - Team from Buladelah In summary a very successful two days of bowls played in a very competitive but friendly manner. A big thankyou to all the bowlers who took part and made the tournament the success it was.
