April 2026, the day being fully sponsored by Ingenia Lifestyle.

A fine morning greeted 64 bowlers from across our region who competed in two games of fours and two games of pairs, all games consisting of twelve ends.

The number of winning games is of the essence in the final wash-up, so are the margins by which teams win by. Most games were very tight with a lot of small margins overall.

However, as does so often happens, one team stood out and won all four games finishing with 4 wins and a margin of +40, a great result overall.

So, congratulations go to the team from Forster Bowling club of Kevin Robinson, Chris Williams, Jason Morse (Skip) and Ian Lawrence.

Finally, a big thank-you to Ingenia Lifestyle for their sponsorship of our day and the wonderful bowlers from the following clubs: Bulahdelah, Forster, Halliday’s Sports, Harrington, Pacific Palms, Tuncurry Beach and Tuncurry Sports for contributing to a fantastic day both on and off the green.

The teams of John Higman (s) and Brad Fraser were up against Gerry Banks (s) and Col Lewis. Both teams played strongly to reach the final so it promised to be an entertaining match up.

After losing the first end John and Brad played exceptional bowls to lead 13-3 shots at the completion of the eighth end. From this point on it was one-way traffic, with John and Brad powering on to win quite comfortably. Gerry and Col, try as they might could not break the stranglehold John and Brad had on the game.

The format for the competition consisted of a game of 2 bowl fours followed by 2 games of 3 bowls pairs, and finishing the day with a game of 2 bowl fours all played over 12 ends.

The lead chopped and changed over the course of the first three rounds with very tight and competitive bowling, however, a couple of teams started to put their stamp on the game.

Friday 4th April 2025 saw the final of our club's Minor Singles with Grant Seage taking on up and comer Tony Simic.

The game was played in front of a very appreciative crowd who treated to an absolute ripper of a game. Tony raced out to a commanding 16-3 shot lead in juts 8 ends of game play. Baring in mind, the first player to 25 shot is the winner soi Tony at this point was well and truly in the box seat.

However, as it often happens, Grant started to turn then tables on Tony and roared back into contention with some precise bowling which seen Grant on lose two more ends for the duration of the match.

When the dust settled, Grant forged back to take the game 25 shots to 19 over 20 ends of bowls. A great victory by Grant but an extremely entertaining game overall. Tony was gallant in defeat and showed he will be a player of the future.

Well done Grant, 2024/2025 Minor Singles Champion.

December 2024 saw the final of clubs’ Major singles played in what can only be described as sweltering conditions.

The two finalists, John Kell and Richard Denniss kicked off proceedings at 11.00am to determine who would be crowned Major singles club champion for 2024.

John Kell through some very astute bowling raced out to a 9 shots to 1 shot lead by the 7

Saturday the 2nd of November saw the commencement of our 2 day Men’s Prestige Fours Tournament with 64 bowlers playing 5 rounds of 2 bowl fours.

The weather was beautiful with a slight breeze and bright sunshine – great conditions for the playing of bowls.

Through the course of the 3 rounds played Saturday, very tight games were the order of the day with only 5 games out of 24 having a margin above 10 shots. Two drawn games also featured during the day showing that a very competitive tournament was taking place. Over the course of the day the leader-board was chopping and changing however one team was making its presence felt.

We returned Sunday morning to recommence the game after a fantastic breakfast BBQ fundraiser for Bungwahl Public school, however the weather started to deteriorate with the wind picking up very strongly. Once again great bowling and great camaraderie were the order of the day.

At the end of the tournament there can only be one winning team – congratulations to Jason Price, Peter Schroeder, Dave Penman and John Morton from Forster Bowling club on your great win finishing with 4 wins and a plus 27 margin.

A big thank-you to all the bowlers from our Manning-Great Lakes bowls region and other bowlers who came from far and wide, helping to make a very successful weekend of bowls.

Our club held its Open Gala Day on Monday 8th April 2024. After a weekend of washed-out Open Pennant games due to the adverse weather conditions all the bowlers attending were eager to get onto the green and bowl! Sunny skies prevailed with a slight cooling breeze thereby ensuring that enjoyable bowling conditions would be the order of the day.

After lunch, round 3 which was the second pairs game, and round 4 the final 4’s game were held with more good bowling and very tight scores on most of the rinks, however one team came home with a wet sail.

Our club held the much-anticipated final of the club pairs on Sunday 24th of March 2024. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with a light cooling breeze, fantastic for a good game of lawn bowls.

The pairings of Corey Fitzgerald & Mick Ansell were taking on the well-versed pairing Laurie Keene & John Higman. Both teams were up for the challenge and on paper it was looking like it would be a very tight, close game and it did not disappoint. The game was played hard with some incredibly accurate bowling on display from both teams. Corey and Mick came out an attacked the 1st end and by the 8th end were up 10 shots to 2. However, the older heads of Laurie and John were able to rein in that lead and by the 11th end were only one shot behind.

The next 10 ends produced some precise bowling especially from Corey and Mick as they were able to hold onto there slender lead. Unfortunately, whilst still plugging away, Laurie and John could not keep up with the young guns of Corey and Mick who eventually ran out winner 25 to 17.

At the conclusion of the game, the large crowd that had amassed to watch the final gave the guys a standing ovation for such an enthralling game of bowls.

A big congratulation to Corey Fitzgerald and Mick Ansell on being crowned the 2024 Pairs Champions at Pacific Palms Bowling Club. Commiseration to Laurie Keene and John Higman who pushed Corey and Mick all the way to the end.

Saturday 9th December saw the final of club’s Major singles played in beautiful sunshine albeit with a slight cooling breeze. The match was billed as a game between the master and the apprentice-Laurie Keene v Jason Lawrence. So the question was, would it live up to the expectations surrounding it? The answer, it sure did!

Jason kicked off proceedings taking the first end, however Laurie came roaring back to win the next 15 out of 20 ends to lead 20 shots to six. Masterful bowls claiming shots when all appeared lost were the feature of this period of play. Only 4 ends produced more than a 1 shot win! Jason then started to turn the tables and slowly but surely whittled away the deficit winning eight of the next twelve ends bringing his score to 19 shots, however as gallant a fightback as it was Laurie just plugged away finally winning the match 25 shots to 19 shots.

Sunday 23rd July 9am saw four teams play two games of triples to determine the two teams who would qualify to play in the afternoon final.

In near perfect conditions the semi-final winners were the teams of L Keene, T Tremain, & J Sparkes and C Lewis, C Fitzgerald & R Squire.

The stage was set, lunch was had and off they went at 1pm. Twenty five ends later we would have a result.

After five ends Laurie Keene’s team were holding a 7 to 3 shot lead. However, as so happens in bowls a team will get stuck on a number no matter how hard they try to progress. By the twelfth end Col Lewis’ team came roaring back and were leading 14 to 7. They consolidated their position to 18 to 10 after the seventeenth end. A mini resurgence by Laurie Keene’s team brought the score to 18 to 15. However, the team of Col Lewis, Corey Fitzgerald and Rodger Squire pulled away eventually winning 24 to 15.

Under overcast skies our club's first Gala Day of the new bowls season was held with 48 players from across the region competing in the 1-day tournament. The action kicked off at 09:00am with the day consisting of two (2) games of 4's and two (2) games of pairs, each with 12 ends played.

Through the course of the day teams battled each other with some inspiring bowls being played. Due to such great play, the leader board changed consistently throughout the morning and 9into the afternoon. The quality of the bowls on display was fantastic and was a credit t0 all the bowlers.

Saturday 13th May saw the long-awaited final of the Men’s Major Singles take place. Beautiful sunshine and a gentle breeze making its way across the green greeted our two finalists Mark Stalling and John Kell. After 3 ends Mark started to build up a handy lead however John was having none of that, so that by the end of the 10th end scores were locked at 9 all. From that point on however Mark started to apply more pressure and kept building the head with some beautiful bowling. John fought valiantly but Mark eventually won the day 31 to 12.

On the 10th & 11th of December 2022, Zone 11 held there portion of NSW Rookies Championship which is for those players who have only been playing lawn for a short period of time. We were fortunate enough to have two (2) from our club attend, Jason Lawrence and John Kell. Both very capable bowlers and were looking forward to pitting themselves against other rookies in the Zone.

Both played extremely well over the two (2) day event with Jason and John playing each other in one of the round games.

Jason who only lost one game over the two (2) days (which was the game between Jason and John Kell) was the eventual winner and will now head to Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on Sunday 5th of February for the playoffs. We wish Jason all the best and hopefully he can continue his winning ways at the playoffs in February.

Saturday 3rd December saw our club pairs kick off for two days of hard fought competition.

At close of play Saturday all but four teams were left to advance to the semi-finals to be held Sunday.

The sides of Peter Harris and Brad Fraser were up against J. Sparke and N. Harvey whilst in the other semi-final John Higman and Laurie Keene were up against T. Tremaine and C. Lewis.

The two semi-finals once again generated some wonderful bowling however only the two winning teams could progress to the Sunday afternoon final these being Peter Harris, Brad Fraser and John Higman, Laurie Keene.

So the final was set and we can say it did not disappoint. Both teams were neck and neck from the first end to the twelfth end with Harris/Fraser holding a three shot lead. However the next end produced a seven shot haul resulting in Harris/Fraser ahead 19-9.Then as so happens in bowls the next five ends produced ten wonderful scoring shots for Higman/Keene-what a fightback, what great bowling with the score 19-19 on end 18! .The last three ends produced a great contest however for Higman/Keene it was not to be, the final result 25-19 in favour of P. Harris B. Fraser.

The standard of bowls played was incredible and the fightback amazing. At the conclusion of the game all the spectators gave a rousing ovation to the players for a game they had the privilege to watch.

The weekend of the 26th & 27th November saw our first Prestige Fours tournament to be held at our club since 2019.

Forty-eight bowlers took part in the two-day event which consisted of 5 games of 15 ends played with 2 bowls.

On Saturday cool overcast conditions prevailed however by mid-afternoon the sun was shining and there was a slight cooling breeze, great for the bowlers.

Players took a break at the end of the second game for lunch and at this stage the leaderboard was taking shape showing one team in particular with two big wins and many other close contests, in fact of the two rounds played, only three games finished with a margin greater than 10 shots.

Sunday morning after a BBQ Bacon and Egg sandwich, the fourth round commenced in great playing conditions with high quality bowling taking place. Close results were occurring all over the green and this was the story for the fifth and final round as well.
